Acland’s Anatomy Review

One of the most challenging aspects of Medical School is learning the subject of anatomy. While there are many useful products out there which teach you anatomy through drawings as well as 2 dimensional images, few products out there guide you through

Acland’s Anatomy is a video product which consists of Anatomy tutorial videos that contain in depth narration and explanations of Real life Cadavers.

In addition to tutorial videos, this product also has assessment and review quizzes. Many people describe Acland’s Anatomy as a great self learning tool, and consider it the gold standard for learning Gross Human Anatomy.

But just how good is Acland’s Anatomy. In this article, I will be doing an in depth review on Acland’s Anatomy

Pros

  • Contains real cadaver images
  • Narration is clear and easy to understand
  • Cadaver specimens are shown from multiple views
  • Comprehensive review quizzes at the end of each video unit allow you to solidify your understanding of the material.
  • Multiple choice exams allow students to track their performance and direct them back to the relevant video for review
  • Not only are the anatomic structures in 3 dimensions, throughout the video structures are shown in a 360 degree view which allows students to better visualize these structures
  • The glossary provides students with a complete vocabulary  list of relevant anatomy terms
  • All of the organized are placed into distinct volumes which makes it easy to find the organ system that you want to study
  • Narrator is easy to understand
  • The video tells you when to pause allowing you to fully comprehend what is being said
  • The content is highly relevant for medical school. Anatomy is a topic which encompasses a lot of information. The narrarator makes sure to focus on high yield anatomy topics.

Cons

  • The multiple choice questions are not written as board style questions and are mainly focused on your ability to recognize the structure and function of human organs.
  • The product lacks questions focused around clinical medicine
  • Unlike products such as med school bootcamp it does not have other anatomy topics such as embryology and radiology.
  • Acland’s anatomy does not come with a textbook or slideshow document. I think this would be a great add on to the videos because many students reinforce their learning by reading text or annotating slides.
