One of the most difficult parts of Medical School is that you have to spend 4 years making no income, while simultaneously acquiring hundreds of thousand of dollars in debt. For students who come from less than ideal financial situations there only solutions are to find worthwhile scholarships. The problem however is that many of these scholarships have very strict and narrow eligibility criteria, there are very few scholarships to begin with, most scholarships are not very well known. In this article I will be listing and discussing 9 scholarships that questions banks and other organizations created to help financially support medical students.
1. Amboss Access Scholarship:
In response to the unexpected challenges that COVID brought, the Global Education fund is distributing 2 million dollars worth of Ambos access. This is being done to encourage and support those who want to pursue a career in medicine but may have significant barriers to doing so

2. Online Med ed Scholarship for Future Black physicians
Online Med ed created this scholarship as a way to close the racial gap that exists in medicine Between Black medical students and medical students of other races. With this scholarship money they hope to eliminate some of the financial barriers preventing African American from becoming physicians.
- How many students are chosen: 1 student gets chosen
- How to apply for the scholarship: To apply for the scholarship you have to fill put questions in the application and then send in a video response based on the final prompt.

3. Picmonic scholarship
The goal of Picmonic is student achievement and success. In an effort to achieve this goal, the Picmonic Learning platform is offering 6 months of Picmonic Premium to students who are able to prove financial need.

4. Med School Insiders Annual Scholarship:
Med School Insiders is program that offers a variety of services such as tutoring, admissions counseling, as well mentorship to pre-med and medical students. In an effort to help underprivileged or those in financial need maximize their chances of success in medical school they created the Medical School Insiders Annual Scholarship.
- How many students are chosen? : The website states that “multiple $500 scholarships” will be given to those students that demonstrate Financial aid need

5. Test prep insight Scholarship
Test Prep insight is a website which provides information on exams such as the MCAT, USMLE, LSAT as well as well as other graduate exams. Their goal for creating this scholarship was to make the financial playing field equal for those with documented disabilities. Their hope is that by providing this opportunity for financial support, those with disabilities will be more able to focus on the academics.

Osmosis is offering a scholarship of $5000.00 in an effort to help combat the physician shortage and help support medical students in their journey to becoming a doctor.

- When is the Deadline: the deadline for 2021 has passed however, if you keep up with their newsletter they will announce when the next round of applications will be.
9. American Medical Women’s Association Lecturo Scholarship
In alignment with Lecturio’s mission of providing students with effective Learning resources, They partnered with American Medical Women’s Association to create a scholarship which consists of two 3 month Lecturio Subscriptions
- How do I apply for the Scholarship: In order to apply, visit the following link. Then once you are there click on the download application button and fill out the required fields.
- What is the deadline to apply?: According to the website there are two application cycles: One is from August 1-31stst, and the second is from September 1st to September 30th.
- Who is eligible to apply: The website does not clarify on whether eligibility includes both medical students AND residents or just medical students. I am guessing that it includes only MD and DO students. One thing they do clarify is that applicants must be members of the American Medical Women
- How many winners are chosen: Two
In Conclusion
As you can see there are a variety of options that medical students have to financially support themselves during medical school. Although these scholarship programs only choose a few people, It is still worth it to at least apply.
